What to Expect at a Michigan Division Council Meeting. At the 2024 Spring Council Meeting, the Saginaw Branch went all out with beautiful centerpieces and lovely table settings. Held at the Saginaw Art Museum, there was view of a beautiful garden and the chance to discover the museum after the meeting. The main speaker Abbey Miller, Director of the 4-H Foundation, reminded us that the MI-WNFGA has supported 4-H for almost 70 years. We are Michigan 4-H Foundation longest consecutive donor. Does not that make you proud of the MI-WNFGA? Council meeting provides a chance to meet members from other branches and hear what they are doing. You get to visit a new venue ranging from the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club to a Metro Park picnic shelter and to learn new things. You really should try it. From your Michigan Division president….
.
Happy Summer!
Summer is here and it is SIZZLING hot outside! Take care when working or enjoying the out of doors, remember to stay hydrated, and take breaks from the heat. The weather is not the only thing happening outside. Garden walks are stoking up and there is plenty to see and do among our branches. Please review the list of Summer Events in The Michigan News spring issue.
The Annual National Meeting in Hersey, Pennsylvania was a fun and educational trip! It was a marvelous opportunity to get to know members and join in the camaraderie of fellowship. A new slate of officers was voted in and Mary Bertolini, former National president, will be the interim president.
The WNF&GA Strategic Planning Committee is examining ways to streamline the organization. Not enough people volunteer to fill officer or committee positions, which unfortunately makes it extremely difficult to efficiently run an organization. There is also some duplication on the National and the Michigan Division level that can potentially be streamlined. The intention is not to dismantle WNF&GA; however, there are no complete answers yet. The Strategic Planning Committee will be meeting and keeping us informed. This process will take some time.
It was a gorgeous day at the beautiful Saginaw Art Museum, the venue for the Michigan Division Spring Council meeting. The Saginaw Branch knocked it out of the park with beautiful table settings and centerpieces, a view of the garden, and magnificent floral containers for drawing prizes. Our main speaker was Ms. Abbey Miller, Director of the 4-H Foundation along with guest speakers from the Frankenmuth Pacesetters and the Trailblazers 4-H Clubs, and Carly Claucherty, a former International Four-H Youth Exchange (IFYE) student. Ms. Miller explained to us that “Michigan Division has supported 4-H for nearly 70 years and is the longest consecutive donor to the Michigan 4-H Foundation”. We learned about the connection between 4-H Foundation, the IFYE Program, and Michigan Division’s Endowment for support of 4-H programming.
The Milford Branch is looking forward to hosting us at the Fall Council Meeting on September 25, 2024, at the Beacon Hill Golf Club and Banquet Center located in Commerce Township. The Banquet Center has asked that reservations be in by September 1.
Please send me branch articles, photographs and dates of fall/winter events to me at [email protected] by August 1, 2024, so that they can be included in the Fall newsletter. A reminder that there will not be a summer online newsletter.
Sue Malone, President 2023-2025
