Breaking News 04/15/2024:
After a long and extensive search by our Board of Directors hiring committee, we're thrilled to announce the next Belle Isle Conservancy President & CEO – Dr. Meagan Elliott!
For the past decade Dr. Elliott has served as Chief Parks Planner, and since 2021 as Deputy Chief Financial Officer for the City of Detroit. She has been a key leader of the transformative vision for the Joe Louis Greenway, and for its collaborative fundraising campaign with the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy. Meagan deeply understands why parks are important to people, how they are essential for thriving communities, and how Belle Isle is significant on a national stage. In the interview process, she mentioned that the role of BIC President and CEO is her 'dream job'. She will continue working for the city through the end of May and then take some time off before officially stepping into her new role with Belle Isle Conservancy on Monday, July 1, 2024.
We are incredibly excited to see where she takes the Belle Isle Conservancy in this next chapter. Of course, our volunteers will continue to play a vital role as we keep moving forward with protecting, preserving, restoring and enhancing Belle Isle now and forever! Please be sure to stop by and give a warm welcome to Dr. Elliott this summer!
Warmest Wishes, The Belle Isle Conservancy Team

The Woman Behind Detroit's Parks
The 2022 Daffodil Day program about Michigan Central Station was very popular.
Part of Meagan's job was oversight of the renovation of Roosevelt Park, directly in front of the Station.
Part of Meagan's job was oversight of the renovation of Roosevelt Park, directly in front of the Station.
As soon as Ford Motor began work on Michigan Central Station, Meagan began plans for improvements that the city of Detroit would make in Roosevelt Park.
After securing funding from the American Rescue Plan Act, her departments began community outreach in the nearby Corktown, Mexicantown, and Hubbard-Richard neighborhoods.
After months of public input, the design for Roosevelt Park was finalized and construction kicked off in July 2022.
The Park's Grand Opening was held in July 2023. Meagan welcomed Senators Gary Peters & Debbie Stabenow, Mayor Duggen & other notables to the festive event.
Roosevelt Park was planned to meet the needs of surrounding neighborhoods, employees at Ford's Michigan Central Station and visitors.
It is a welcome addition to neighborhood.
Ford Motor recently announced Michigan Central Station will have an official reopening on June 6, 2024.
