From your Michigan Division president…..
Happy Spring!
March came in like a lamb with record-breaking hot temperatures and is going out like a lion with several inches of snow recently. During the warm spells I had the itch to get into the gardens, but knew I had to leave the leaf and plant debris alone so that I do not disturb the hibernating, beneficial insects. We are on the cusp of a busy spring and summer. There is no shortage of wonderful events or chores in the garden.
I held a third President’s Gathering on March 20, where branch presidents/representatives of Milford, Waterford, Lapeer Wildflowers, Springfield, Clarkston, Saginaw, Troy, Warren, and Bloomfield Hills met at Lapeer District Library. It was a wonderful afternoon exchanging information and learning about branch activities. Also present from the Michigan Division Board was 1st Vice President Cinda Schantz and National Representative
Charlotte Westbrook.
Get ready to get decked out in your favorite Daffodil Day attire on April 17 at the Detroit Yacht Club. I find the beautiful and imaginative fascinators utterly fascinating. A registration form was placed in the last Michigan Division newsletter and another email blast will go out soon to members providing an online link to register. Please consider including a donation to help with the purchase of daffodil bulbs. Can your branch or group of
friends/supporters become a Trumpeter, Golden Long, or Double Golden benefactor? The costs of the luncheon and program have gone up and the increase does not leave much left over for purchasing daffodil bulbs. Go to DAFFODILS4DETROIT page for a printable copy of the Daffodil Day Registration Form
The Michigan Division board will start reviewing our bye laws and standing rules to examine what needs updating.
It is one of the goals listed in our Strategic Plan. Any proposed changes will be brought to all members of Michigan Division WNF&GA.
The Michigan Division brochure has been printed and you will see copies of it on Daffodil Day, and we will have
brochures to pass out to branches at the Spring Council Meeting in Saginaw.
I know I sound like a broken record, but we need a 2nd vice president, a newsletter editor(s), and assistance with the
website. Remember, sharing these responsibilities with a partner can make these roles more manageable and
enjoyable. The members of your Board are hard workers, energetic, and put in time and hours with their clubs and
events, yet they are dedicated to doing their best for Michigan Division and you! National President Patty Burnside's term ends this June, they are also in need of a president and vice president. Come join either team!
Kudos to Bloomfield Hills Garden Club, they decided that their membership will receive the newsletter via e-mail,
which is almost 100 fewer printed copies. That is a significant cost reduction in printing! Currently, newsletter
printing makes up 22% of the 2024 budget. The Michigan Division is considering doing the same with all members
who have emails. We will keep you informed as we think through this process.
Thank you to the Milford Garden Club for hosting the upcoming 2024 Fall Council Meeting. Michigan Division is thinking of hosting a meeting in 2025, however, we need a branch to host a meeting in 2025. We can work with you
on which meeting you would prefer. Two branches can always share the event.
I plan to skip the summer online newsletter but provide a fall newsletter.
Please submit articles & photos by August 1, 2024.
