NEWS FROM THE TRANSITION TEAM

A new season is upon us. Spring brings the promise of rebirth, hope, and the assurance that life will continue. We look forward to new beginnings in all facets of our lives with joy and love.

Our organization, WNF&GA, has gone through some rough patches -- perhaps our own winter -- and we are ready for our new spring season. The Transition Committee has been working diligently to form a new look, our promise of better things for all for the future. It hasn’t been an easy task. All committee members shared ideas, voiced opinions and came to workable conclusions. Part of our renewal is reorganization, taking stock of the best parts of Farm & Garden, identifying the duplication, and choosing which portions are necessary and useful going forward.

January 14, 2026, the Michigan Division met via Zoom to vote on joining the National Organization as one, cohesive group under one level of governance. All branches/clubs would be equal in representation and voting rights, regardless of membership numbers, location or interests. The vote was nearly unanimous. The Michigan Division will be merged into the National level.

All scholarships and grants will remain in place as currently structured. Branches/Clubs are encouraged to continue contributions which support local, state and national non-profit groups and scholarships. Fundraising by branches/clubs will continue as it has in the past and every group will be autonomous. The structure of your local group will remain the same. The major changes will take place with both the Michigan Division and National treasurers. No money will be lost; members will gain from monetary assets which can be used for many forms of communication and member education.

The structure with bylaws and standing rules will be discussed by the Transition Committee. When ready for approval, these items will be presented to the general membership and voted upon at a national meeting. All national meetings in the future will be held as hybrid meetings with a Zoom opportunity for all.

The next national meeting will be held this fall. We will elect new officers and approve the bylaws and standing rules. All members are encouraged to attend and vote for the renewal. Please watch for email from this address for details.

The work has taken many months, but the commitment remains firm and the focus is still on the future of Farm & Garden. Our roots run deep; the bones of our garden are strong. We look forward to the springtime rebirth of Woman’s National Farm & Garden Association as we move into our next 100 years.

Sincerely,

Mary Bertolini

LETTER FROM MICHIGAN WNFGA PRESIDENT

At this time of year, I find myself singing my favorite lines from Cat Stephen’s recording of Morning is Broken.

Morning has broken like the first morning;
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.
Sweet the rain's new fall sunlit from heaven;
Like the first dewfall on the first grass.
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden.
…Mine is the sunlight!
....Mine is the morning

Born of the one light Eden saw play…

As Spring returns with each drop of rain, ray of sunlight and emerging bud and bulb, it gives us hope.

For the Michigan Division of Woman’s National Farm & Garden it is a time of celebrations and transition. 100 years of serving our community in innumerable ways. Enriching our members through friendship and common goals. Promoting environmental concerns and protection of native species. Education and Scholarship for adults and children has been always priority. Endorsing and supporting some of our state’s university gardens, state parks, and our national organizations Dogwood Collection at the U.S. National Arboretum.

With enthusiasm, I invite you to celebrate in April with Daffodils4Detriot on Belle Isle, May’s Michigan Division’s Spring Council Meeting in Warren, our Branches Garden Walk and our 100th Birthday Anniversary in June at Clara Fords Estate, Fair Lane, in Dearborn.

At the 100th Anniversary Garden Party Celebration will recognize each Branches’ Member of Distinction, enjoy delightful Garden Party delights, guided tour the grounds, in our finest garden party hats.
Thank you to all our members who volunteer their time and talent to make lives more beautiful and rewarding.
To those of you who have supported me through my new year’s health crisis, my heart is so full of gratitude.
I will see you in the garden,

Cinda Schantz
