There may be snow on the ground but the daffodils are planning their comeback.

After a hasty cancellation in 2020 and a virtual E-Tour of Daffodils in 2021, the Daffodil Luncheon is back at the Detroit Yacht Club with an exciting program about Michigan Central and a tour of the new Piet Oudolf Garden.

Detroit’s Michigan Central Station is coming back to life with a one billion dollar restoration by Ford Motor Corporation. Built in 1913, the once splendid building closed in 1988. The empty station fell victim to vandals, scrappers and the ravages of time. The ruined shell became a symbol of Detroit’s decay.

Under the leadership of Bill Ford, Ford Motor bought the building in 2018. Extensive restoration work soon started. Today, Michigan Central Station is entering its final phases of renovation. It will soon reopen as Michigan Central, the hub for a “new mobility innovation district” where solutions for urban transportation will be developed by Ford Motor, Google and other innovative organizations.

The NEW Piet Oudolf Garden is our 2022 Special Attraction.

The urban perennial garden was designed by Piet Oudolf, one of international gardening's most “cutting edge” designers. The High Line in New York and the
Millennium Garden in Chicago, much loved and used by their communities, are also his work.

Docents will be waiting to give you a tour of Belle Isle's newest attraction.
